Sally Storey

Design Director

Sally Storey, Design Director of John Cullen, developed her passion for lighting whilst training as an architect at Bristol University (1980 - 83).   Now considered one of the country’s leading lighting experts, Sally heads up the team at John Cullen and spends much of her time traveling all over the world to design lighting schemes for individual and corporate clients. With her classical and understated approach to lighting, Sally has been responsible for designing numerous town houses, penthouses, apartments, country houses, villas, chalets and yachts around the world.

Sally has written three very successful, well-received books on the subject of lighting, often contributes to national and international press and is regularly asked to speak at top interior design and architectural events. House & Garden magazine included Sally in its “Who’s who of British design” for the end of the millennium – the only lighting designer to be included.

Lucy Martin

Design Director

Lucy had a successful career as a journalist specialising in design and finance, editing several magazines and working for a national newspaper, prior to completing a course at KLC.  She began her lighting career at Lighting Design International (1995) before moving to John Cullen Lighting in 1997, where she currently heads up the design team working on projects throughout the world.  Lucy also lectures at design schools and is writing her first book about lighting.

She was part of the first ever women’s and British womens’ successful expedition to the North Pole in 1996 and sailed around the world on the winning boat in the Millennium Round the World Race 1999-2000.  It is this drive and determination that Lucy brings to all her work at John Cullen.  In 2005 her scheme for a private London house won the prestigious Residential Award at the National Lighting Design Awards.

Alexandra Fry

Associate

Alex’s passion for architecture and interiors began at an early age and continued whilst completing her degree in Art History (MA) from St Andrews University.   Post university, Alex enrolled in a one year professional diploma in Interior Design at KLC School of Design.  Alex joined the team at John Cullen in August 2002 and has recently been appointed Associate.  Alex’s continuing interest in design and detail has proved useful in assisting people worldwide with creative lighting schemes for bathrooms to ballrooms, flats to fortresses! Current projects range from a shooting lodge in Scotland to houses in Monaco and Kuwait.

Jenny McCleave

Jenny completed a foundation course in Art and Design, before going to do a degree in Interior Architecture at Bournemouth University for 4 years including a placement year in the industry as the main interior designer at an Architect firm in Nottingham.   Graduating with a 2:1 Ba Hons, she joined John Cullen in 2001.  Jenny has now been a Senior Designer since 2003 working on residential projects nationally and internationally.   Jenny also trains up new recruits as they join the ever growing design team.

Sian Parsons

Returning to education, she completed an interior design diploma at Chelsea College, and worked in the industry as an interior designer for Fired Earth before joining John Cullen in 2005.  Sian is now a Senior Designer working on residential projects around the UK and was responsible this year for the project management of the new showroom at 561-563 Kings Road.

Luke Thomas

Lighting Designer

Luke was first introduced into the world of light while working towards a Diploma in Industrial Studies at a lighting design and manufacturing company. During his final years at university studying Product Design and Innovation he built on his practical knowledge and went on to develop a passion in this field basing several successful design projects on lighting for domestic use. After graduating with a first class honours degree Luke spent a short time as a freelance designer and joined John Cullen Lighting in early 2008.

Zoe Corday-Simpson

Lighting Designer

Zoe read History of Art and Architecture at Edinburgh University (2:1 MA HONS).  After graduating, she completed a one year’s Advanced Diploma at Leith’s School of Food and Wine before going on to work as a freelance cook, food stylist and recipe tester.  With a passion for ethically sourced and well produced food, she set up an online farmer’s market; foodfullstop.com whilst also doing some flats up on the side.  On selling the business, she went to KLC before joining JCL in 2008.  She particularly enjoys encouraging people to understand that a successful lighting scheme essentially relies on careful positioning, the quality of the fittings and crucially an energy efficient design.
